The Table Took the Scenic Route and arrived somewhere far more interesting than a living room. A Noguchi-inspired coffee table sits in the middle of an autumnal forest, its biomorphic glass top catching the amber light filtering through the canopy above, ferns curling in at its feet, the whole scene glowing in deep burnt orange and tobacco brown. It is a table that clearly had somewhere better to be.
Inspired by the iconic Noguchi Coffee Table, designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1944 and first produced by Herman Miller in 1948. With its biomorphic glass top and two interlocking sculptural wooden supports, the Noguchi table became one of the most enduring and recognisable designs of the mid-century modern movement, a piece that felt as much like sculpture as furniture. Here, it has found its natural habitat.
At the risk of oversharing it is one of my all-time favourite mid-century modern pieces ... and I do not like glass tables but I LOVE and ADORE this.
My designs are for the maximalists, the romantics, the bold souls who believe a home should feel like something. The ones who walk into a room and think the walls look a little too quiet, surely we can do better than that.
I have always been drawn to art with feeling, work that pulls you in, holds your attention and makes a space feel lived-in and loved. The Table Took the Scenic Route does exactly that.
